I was born on the island of Sao Miguel, Acores and my family immigrated to the United States in 1966. I'm a 1976 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, MA. I received a BA from Warren Wilson College in 1981 and MAed from Western Carolina University in 1994. I completed my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification in the Fall of 2000 and received my National Board Certification renewal in 2009. I'm in my 24th year of teaching and coaching.
Married for 26 years to Leslie with two children, Paul (22), a Senior at the University of Florida, Alexandria 25), a graduate of Salem College with a BA in English and Creative Writing. Leslie enjoys running including half-marathons; Paul, enjoys soccer and his friends. Alex, enjoys writing; and I enjoy my family and my students.
