I have wanted to be a teacher since the fifth grade. Well, that or a superhero, but teacher is the one that stuck. I began my teaching career instructing kids in wilderness survival. I’ve been doing this for the past five years, and I continue to teach primitive living skills over the summertime. I remember watching my teachers and thinking that they had the greatest job in the world. I have to admit, I’m pretty happy to find out that my fifth-grade self was right. There is nothing I would rather do. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University with my BA in Literature and my minor in Sociology, I spent two years in Santa Cruz, California, managing a restaurant, at which point I followed my dream to live in the Smokies and moved to Asheville.
I have always had a deep love for reading and writing, and I feel that through these skills one can change the world. So many times I have read something new and found my entire perspective on a subject to be changed. Through writing we have the power to share our deepest thoughts, ideas, and hopes with the world. I feel it’s my calling to bring this skill to the next generation of leaders.
