Weathington, Buffy -- Counselor (7/8)
Teacher Bio
Welcome to the Counseling Department
Buffy Weathington

This is my seventh year at Owen Middle School as a school counselor. I am excited to be working with all of the 8th graders and half of the 7th graders (the Mustang Team). In addition to scheduling, mediation, and academic supports, I will be involved in presenting classroom lessons of study skills, the Anti-Bullying curriculum, some career choice and exploration, and preparation for and registration for high school classes. It should be an exciting year!

My experience: I love working at Owen Middle School as a school counselor. Before I started in this position, I worked as a contracted support person for 6 school years in the Owen district, dividing my time between Owen Middle School and Owen High School. I have an extensive background in the mental health field in the Buncombe County area and in Gainesville, Fl., where I used to live.
I completed my Bachelor's degree at New College in Sarasota, Florida, my Master's degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and a post-Master's certificate in School Counseling at UNC-Charlotte.  I completed my National Board certification in 2013.

My family: My husband and I moved to Buncombe County in 1998 and have loved it ever since. I have two daughters (both in college now!) and enjoy watching them perform musically and on the soccer field. My dogs and cat are regular members of the family, too.

Buncombe County Schools is in the process of reviewing its website to ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
