Appalachian Heritage Garden

Local volunteers, OMS students, and OMS staff created an Appalachian Heritage Garden in the courtyard near the Media Center during the 2015-16 school year. Agencies volunteering included: Black Mountain Rotary Club, C. D. Owen High School science classes, Lenoir-Rhyne University Graduate School Program of Asheville, Young Office Supply, and C. D. Owen Middle School CTE classes. This garden contains plants which are native to the Appalachian Mountain region of North Carolina, including many medicinals and edibles.

This project was made possible through grants from the Black Mountain Rotary Club, the Black Mountain Beautification Committee, and the Master Gardeners of Western North Carolina.
