ESL Course Syllabus

Course Overview

In this class we will work to improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills with a special focus on writing.

 

We will learn many reading strategies such as previewing, metacognition, inference and more to help you be become a better reader and be more successful in your content classes

Grading Policy

  • Warm-ups/Classwork/Group Work               20%

  • Speaking/Participation Grade                         20%

  • Portfolio Grade                                               20%

  • Writers Notebook/Tests/Projects                    40%

    To be successful in ESL Reading/Writing class you should follow these rules and procedures:

  1. Respect the teacher and each other.

  2. Follow all school rules listed in the student handbook.

  3. Follow directions.

    Cell Phone Policy

  1. Cell phones should be put away in a book AND REMAIN there FOR THE ENTIRE CLASS UNLESS THE TEACHER allows PHONE to be used for translation.

IF YOU USE YOUR CELL PHONE TO TEXT, FACEBOOK, SNAPCHAT OR ANYTHING BESIDES TRANSLATION:

  1. First time-Verbal warning

  2.  2cd time phone will be taken away until end of period

  3. 3rd time phone will be turned into the principal AND YOUR PARENTS MUST PICK UP!

     

Discipline Policy:

When you break a classroom rule or disrespect the teacher or another student these are the consequences you will face:

 

  1. The 1st time receive a verbal warning from the teacher.

     

  2. The 2cd time you disobey and break class rules, you will be asked to sign the discipline book and write what you did wrong.

  3. The 3rd time you break a classroom rule your parent will be called.

     

  4. The 4th time written discipline referral will be written up and turned into the principal.

     

     

  5. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO WRITE A REFFERAL OR SEND YOU TO OFFICE AT ANYTIME IF OFFENSE IS SEVER ENOUGH.
