Teacher Bio
Welcome to the Counseling Department
Buffy Weathington

                                                                Virtual Days Schedule

I will be available for office hours every school day from 10:00- 2:00.  Please feel free to email
me and I will get back with you by email, phone, or video conference as possible.

Please also check for my Google Classroom if you are an 8th grade student or on my 7th grade
team.  You should receive an email with the invitation and class code.

This is my tenth year at Owen Middle School as a school counselor. I am excited to be working with
all of the 8th graders and half of the 7th graders (the Seahorse Team). In addition to scheduling,
mediation, and academic supports, I will be involved in presenting classroom lessons of study skills,
the Anti-Bullying curriculum, some career choice and exploration, and preparation for and
registration for high school classes. It should be an exciting year!

My experience: I love working at Owen Middle School as a school counselor. Before I started in this
position, I worked as a contracted support person for 6 school years in the Owen district, dividing
my time between Owen Middle School and Owen High School. I have an extensive background in the
mental health field in the Buncombe County area and in Gainesville, Fl., where I used to live.
I completed my Bachelor's degree at New College in Sarasota, Florida, my Master's degree at the
University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and a post-Master's certificate in School Counseling at
UNC-Charlotte.  I completed my National Board certification in 2013.

My family: My husband and I moved to Buncombe County in 1998 and have loved it ever since. I have
two daughters (both out of college now!) and enjoy getting together as a family whenever possible.
My dog and cat are regular members of the family, too.
